Why Preserving Freedoms Has Never Been So Important

Freedoms. Rights. Liberty. These words mean different things to different people. Yet we live in a nation whose founding document strove to define some fundamental rights bestowed onto its citizens. A common belief in liberty is what brought together its Founding Fathers and peoples who came to America in search of something they no longer had, or in an attempt to gain something more. 

We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its Foundation on such Principles, and organizing its Powers in such Form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. – The Declaration of Independence of the United States, July 4, 1776

These rights were considered in/unalienable, meaning: …”rights that we are unable to give up, even if we want to. According to the concept of inalienable rights found in the Declaration of Independence, liberty is such a right. That means that if we signed a contract to be a slave, we would not have an obligation to keep it; and despite the contract, no one would have a right to our services. Having rights that are inalienable does not mean they cannot be attacked by our being arbitrarily killed, imprisoned, or otherwise oppressed. It means that such acts are not morally justified and that we have a ground for moral complaint.” – From Center for Civic Education.

As stated in the Declaration, the government’s job is to define, organize and protect its people and their rights in consideration of their safety and happiness.

Things were very different in 1776 than today. Government was small, corporations weren’t yet behemoths and the rights of citizens were paramount. Today, it is no longer just the government making decisions for our welfare. Instead, as many of us know and the media can attest to, it is often lobbyists and corporations that influence policies and practices that affect our lives.

We are living in a time when we, the citizens, must wake up to this reality, understand our rights and take action to protect them. We can’t take our health, religious or financial freedoms for granted. Every year, laws being created or changed at the federal, state, county and city levels that are literally altering the way that we live, take care of ourselves and our families and what work we can or can’t do based on our values. 

Parental rights, individual health freedom rights and the right to protect our children from toxins are the key founding principles of Health Freedom Idaho.

Health Freedom Idaho is a volunteer organization that was formed by concerned citizens in response to a bevy of policy and philosophy shifts happening in our nation, and in particular, the great state of Idaho. 

In the 2017 legislative session, the efforts of this small group of citizen freedom defenders defended our rights and quashed a couple bills that would have negatively impacted health freedoms and parental rights. In addition, we helped support a bill that gave back practice rights to chiropractors

And just this season, as one of our own tried to enroll her five-year-old in kindergarten at a local school, her son was denied enrollment due to being unvaccinated. Yet, Idaho law allows parents to opt-out of child vaccinations due to religious or other reasons. Due to her brave stance, and with the support of this community, the school had to overturn its denial and allow her son to attend school. They acknowledged that the law gave her those parental rights and that the school had no right to deny him enrollment. 

The school illegally wanted to control something that the law didn’t allow for, yet without pressure, this woman and her son would have had to find alternative resources for his education. 

Rights. Freedoms. Liberty.

These seismic shifts in our American culture are happening daily that could fundamentally alter your rights in terms of your health, child’s health, food choices, healthcare and even livelihood. 

Our organization’s efforts so far are making a difference. But we need more voices to help spread the message. With a larger community of concerned citizens, we can do more. We hope that you will join us in preserving freedoms relating to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – all of which factor into our health rights. 

We earnestly care for our state, our nation and its people and believe that the freedom to choose how we care of our health and our families should continue to reside with us – its citizens. 

Since we are volunteer organization, we rely on donations to help us with basic administrative costs to keep the site running, hosting events, education initiatives and legal fees.
